I decided to write this because i hate idiot people that comment on youtube videos thinking that they are the most intelligent people in the world the officials of musical taste.

So by now, everybody has probably heard Rebecca Black’s Friday that came out this year and or seen the music video of it and I’ll admit that the lyrics are very basic and can be somewhat silly at times. That being the case, it doesn’t necessarily make the song terrible.  The song itself, is very simple to understand. It basically sums up every child’s excitement as they go through school because for most people, at least 12 years of their entire life are dedicated to going to school 5 days a week and having off on Saturday and Sunday. Everyone I know and probably you know has at some point gotten excited for it being Friday and “looking forward to the weekend” because it meant free time away from school and the chance to hang out with friends and enjoy the time you have. That sounds like a decent concept for a song to me

As for the part of the song that seems to be the most controversial, i’ll copy and paste the lyrics here and then break down the kind of comments people say about it:

 ”Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday

Today i-is Friday, Friday

We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after … wards
I don’t want this weekend to end”

The most common comment against this portion of the song is something along the lines of “I think we all know the days of the week” to which I say yes, and we also know how to spell the word delicious, but that doesn’t stop Fergie from sharing it with us! Sure, she may not put it in the most poetic way, but if you know the song is sung by a teenager, you shouldn’t expect her to have lyrics on par with let’s say Eminem, whom i consider to be one of the best lyricists around.  As for the “we we we so excited” part, you normally see people telling her to learn how to speak English or something to that effect to which I also say yes, and the double negative in the line “I can’t get no satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones also demonstrates bad grammar, but that didn’t stop that song from becoming one of the most well know songs of its time.  It also makes you realize that they are, in fact, only getting satisfaction.

In conclusion, if you want to not like the song, the music, the video, or her singing, then be my guest and say why that is, but if you start criticizing the lyrics in any of the aforementioned ways, think about some of the other music you listen to and sing along to because you will realize just how many artists do the same things that Rebecca Black is criticized for in her song.
